Regardless of the fact that we store it correctly, sometimes bread at home will go stale. No problem. Using stale bread, one can prepare various delicious dishes – fried bread slices for breakfast, bread loaf with herbal side dish, trifles for dessert, etc. Our favourite dish is bread dumplings – an excellent side dish complementing meat and vegetable sauces.

kruh1To prepare bread dumplings, use three to four day old bread. Cut the bread into cubes, pour a hot liquid (for instance soup) over them, stir and cover. Fry minced onions and garlic in fat and mix them with bread. Add lightly beaten eggs and flour, season with minced parsley, marjoram, salt and pepper and form dumplings from the mixture.

However, at Žito we use the stale bread for bread-crumbs.
